I’d liek to learn more about the personality of a Chow Chow Akita mix. Should a new dog owner have one?

What a great dog, dude! A Japanese dog mixed with a Chinese dog, that’s one pan-Asian pup!

A friend of mine had an Akita-Chow mix that he’d raised since he was a teenager. His dog was SMART! And VERY loyal! My first room mate when I was younger had a pure bred Chow Chow(papered), she was a beautiful dog and he had inherited her under bad circumstances, one day she snapped and bit my other room mates finger off for his french fries! Given to a guy with a farm, she later bit that guys son’s knee cap so bad he needed surgery for a bologna sandwich!(She was an A+ dog for the original owner). Leads me to believe Chows are lifelong companions and easily stressed when that owner isn’t in the picture, but my friend with the Akita-Chow mix NEVER had problems. Your dog is beautiful! I’m commenting to compliment Ryan and to address Ollie Cole’s comment.

FUNNY WE HAVE A BLACK AKITA CHOW CHOW NAMED DAKOTA TOO! HE’S 6, A GREAT DOG, BUT IF YOU’RE A NEW OWNER I THINK IT MIGHT BE A LOT OF WORK…BE PREPARED FOR LOTS AND LOTS OF HAIR BUNNIES! LITERALLY BUNNIES! OTHER THEN THAT HE’S VERY PLAYFUL AND FUN, HE’S PROTECTIVE AND VERY SMART, HE’S NEVER BITTEN A THING…WE HAVE TWO KIDS AND A CAT…HE DOESNT REALLY LIKE THE CAT THAT MUCH BUT HE TOLERATES HIM UNTIL HE GOES FOR HIS FOOD. AKITA AND CHOW’S BOTH ARE POSSESSIVE OF THEIR FOOD SO IT’S UNDERSTANDABLE. I ALSO JUST LEARNED THEY ARENT BARKER’S BUT THEY MUTTER A LOT AND OURS DOES EXACTLY THAT…HE NEVER DOES IT IN AN AGGRESSIVE MANNER BUT IF YOU’RE RUBBING HIM ON HIS SIDE HE MUTTERS, HE LOVES LOVES LOVES THE PARK AND IS NOT REALLY A PACK DOG….

At 8.5 weeks you have to be patient.Dogs that age simlpy do not have the bladder control, so you have to put in place a proper routine where you let the dog out, day and night. Pups generally have to go every 2 hours. When you see the dog about to go to the toilet inside, say “No!” or “Ah-ah” and lead him outside. Wait, and when he does something reward. If he doesn’t do anything, go inside, and a few minutes later try again.References :

We have a litter of Akita-Chows. Mostly Akita. The male had one Chow grandparent 3 Akita. The female we are not sure of. We adopted her and she went into heat before we could have her fixed. She goes in as soon as the pups are weaned. She looks and acts more like a long haired Akita.

The two breeds mix extemely well. Reading up on the breeds I would bet they are from the same lineage. It is the people that don’t want to admit that due to their cultures and countries not getting along. The Korean Jindo is in the mix too. The dust bunny comment is true. So is the bonding to their owner comment. If raised with children they make the best guardians that kid could have.
