What is a Puggle?

Puggle Beagle Pug Mix

Pug + Beagle = Puggle

A Puggle is the result of breeding a female Beagle with a male Pug.

Puggles were first bred in Wisconsin, where dog breeder Wallace Haven experimented with various crossbreeds in the 1980s. He mixed together a Pug and a Beagle, and was introduced to a small, energetic, and healthy dog. Puggle are registered with the American Canine Hybrid Club, a non-credited group that registers crossbreeds. The American Hybrid Canine Association reports that the Puggle is the most popular mix breed of the 500 litters per month they register. Puggles are generally high-energy dogs that need daily excercise. They can be hard to train but adjust well to new people, other pets and new environments. They have a sweet temperament but can howl, dig and take off on a scent if their Beagle instincts are strong.
