Everyone thinks that this Shih Tzu, Cocker Spaniel, and Chow Chow mutt is a German Shepherd puppy! We had him DNA tested though. He is almost a year old and 20 pounds. He will probably look like a 3 month old Puppy forever and I am okay with that! I love his curly ears and his very dedicated personality! He is a one person dog and very loyal!

The Chow Chow is known for being aloof with strangers but a dedicated family dog usually bonding with one family member more than any other. That is exactly our Benny. He could do without strangers, but loses it if I leave a room. Just like the classic Shih Tzu personality he has to follow us from room to room. I often trip over him because his is always by my feet.

A playful dog like the Cocker Spaniel but he does tend to be a little stubborn at first. This could be all three breeds. He has that wide chow chow smile but looks nothing like his dominant breed Shih Tzu. Although he may not look like one, he was very difficult to house train which is another common personality trait of the Shih Tzu. They are also notorious for being a fearful dog, which Benny can be at times. Luckily the guard dog comes out (I assume the chow has something to do with that) when it is necessary and he will bark if he senses someone near the door, or if I seem nervous walking by people at night.

He has a pretty low energy level and is content chewing on some of his toys and laying in bed with me. He also doesn’t shed at all. I have no idea why but I have never seen a single black hair on anything, and his hair is pretty long! It was love at first sight through that pound kennel and the best decision I ever made!

The not shedding part comes from the Shih Tzu. Them and the Lhasa do not shed. They instead have hair, like a Yorkie, it grows until it falls to the ground, if not cut/groomed.
