Rhodesian Ridgeback German Shepherd Mix

From Amber: Ruger is a 25lb 3 month old Rhodesian Ridgeback, German Shepherd mix. Judging by his bark that sounds like a baying, there’s possibly some other hound in there, maybe Redbone Coonhound.
Ruger is a rescue dog that came all the way from Tennessee to be with us in New England. He’s a gorgeous, smart, loveable puppy that can’t get enough attention and time on our laps. He’s already shown that he has a natural instinct to guard his home and family, but seems to love everyone he meets and wins everyone hearts when we take him out hiking and to the pet stores. Ruger also absolutely loves to run, we’re just not fast enough for him when he’s on the leash!

hey, what a beautiful dog. do you have any recent pics? I am trying to download Karma’s now. I thought until recently he was Shar-Pei and Australian Cattle Dog, he’s a rescue so we were just guessing, that picture looks almost exactly like him at the same age, I had never seen a rhodesian ridgeback before and he doesn’t look shepherd but he’s 2yrs old now and weighs 180 lbs so he’s definitely somethings bigger than what I thought. I don’t care but i want to be able to take care of him properly and he’s my companion dog. thx for reading.

shepherd cross ridgeback is an amazing cross. i had one for 8 years and i haven’t seen the same intellect and sensitivity in any other breed. my dog was a rogue character but could assess his surroundings and act accordingly. he’d make his own friendships with people who held him in high regard and was so tuned to command that if he ever got into a fight with another dog you could stop it easily. once he had a scrap with a dog that was half his size over a ball and as soon as i told him to stop he sat down with the other dog still attached to his ear. his character, loyalty and gentleness won him so many friends and because he was great to chill with we went everywhere together. also the short hair of the ridgeback works well in the mix because you get the shepherd intellect but without malting and playful ridgy nature. i read someplace that people don’t see the reason for these two dogs to breed but i beg to differ from experience, i got lucky and possibly had the best dog in the world.
