Kujo the Mutt

Mix Breed Dog Picture

Mutt of Unknown Breed

From Kevin: Kujo is a mutt.  We found him as a stray with no collar or microchip. We have no idea what he is. He has a long extremely soft coat, brindle pattern, small ears and eyes and his tail curls up onto his back. He is very nice and playful but very protective when on the leash.  He gets a long with all dogs.

If anyone has any idea what he could be, please fell free to comment. We looked at the breed test but have heard mixed reviews about it. Thank you.

Note from AllMutt: Let see…brindle is usually found with Bulldogs, Boxers, Great Danes or American Pit Bull Terriers. Breeds with curled up tails include Siberian Huskies, Pugs, Shih Tzus, Pomeranians and Chows. The protective aspect makes me think of Chows, German Shepherd, Rottweiler and Doberman Pinscher. My best guess that Kujo is som mixture of Husky, Rottweiler, Chow Chow, Pit Bull and maybe Golden Retriever (for the long coat).

To me he reminds me of my mutt just dif. color but eveything else looks same, mine i beleive is mixed with rottweiler, australian shepherd, and golden retriever. which seems like what Kujo could be, I have a good eye at picking out breeds from mutts.

I’m guessing Pitt Bull and Golden Retriever. He has a Pitt Bull face for sure.

I’ll bet he is a wonderful dog! Mutts are the best 🙂

Brindle is recessive which means it pretty much must come from both parents in order to be a visible color. Since he isn’t showing much white he probably wont have breeds with a lot of white on them (such as Bernese Mountain Dog) because it takes forever and one day to “get rid of” the white. Its more likely to be a maskless mastiff of some kind (great dane, bull mastiff, cane corso etc). Along with something like a Newfoundland and Akita (http://www.akinuba.no/Akitabilder/Akita-BRINDLE.jpg).

Kujo looks like a gigantic version of my dog, except mine has a black mask on his face. Very adorable, though.

I had a very unusual-looking red brindled dog that always got people in the streets guessing, and one day he got the attention of someone who actually studied brindling. She said that actually, brindling is a recessive gene that can manifest in any breed. Kujo’s general shape, size, ears, and fur all look like Akida to me. The white chest and toes suggest Boxer as my best guess. His face and tail look Akida, as well.

I think it is a black lab golden retriever mix I have one and he looks just like kujo he’s almost six mouths old weighs 65 lbs already he’s brindle long soft hair, white chest floppy ears square head. His mom was a pure bread golden retriever and his dad was pure bread black Labrador both parents had recessive genes so the out of the 11 puppies 7 (all the males) where brindle with white chests and the other 6 (all the females) were black with white chests

Hi!!! Do you still have him? I know this was posted awhile ago. And where did you find him? Please and thankyou.

  8. Bethany says:

He looks remarkably like my dog! I have a catahoula/akita mix and seriously – coat pattern/body proportions/hairiness is all spot on!

I would definitely do the test.. Can’t be mixed with Bernese Mountain Dog, as they only have one coat color, Black Tan and White. That head is definitely Mastiff/Molosser.
